Teen Song Performance Masterclass

It's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice... or take a stand... or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love, and the choices that we make.

Using Jason Robert Brown's varied and complex music with comedic and dramatic numbers, uptempos and ballads, solos, duets, and ensemble numbers, and songs for classical and contemporary voices, students will learn a complete process for developing a character and telling a story through music. Students will focus on connecting to a lyric, using song structure to support your acting and vocal choices, enhancing a musical performance with physicality, and making an existing song their own specific, unique performance.

Legally Blonde JR. follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle's boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard, claiming she's not "serious" enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate, Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren't mutually exclusive.  As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.
